The Patriots fell just short of a win against the Kell Longhorns in a thrilling 58-46


The offense exploded to put up 38 points, the previous season high had been 18. The

teams played to a scoreless first quarter. After that, the offenses took over for both teams.

Kell scored on a one yard rushing touchdown in the 2nd quarter. From there, as the scoring

took off, the Patriots responded with a 25-yard rushing touchdown by Jamal McIver. Kell

had a 35-yard passing touchdown to make the score 16-7 Longhorns. Tyron Summerour

(3 catches 110 yards 2 Touchdowns) exploded for a 75-yard touchdown, in response, that

brought the Patriots within two points 16-14. The Longhorns widened their lead, with a 64-

yard rushing touchdown and a 34-yard field goal that brought the halftime score to 26-14

Kell. The Patriots continued their offensive success in the second half, with Brantley

Mauldin (17/20 349 yards     3 touchdowns 1 interception) throwing a 12-yard touchdown

pass to Tyron Summerour, who made an incredible diving catch. Kell’s lead was narrowed

to 26-21. However, the Longhorns responded with two scores to widen their lead back out

to 39-21, with a 4-yard pass and a 5-yard run. Lorenzo Euline, who also plays free safety

for the Patriots, scored on a 12-yard scamper to make the score 39-28. The fourth quarter

was one to remember, as the game continued to go back and forth like a Big 12

conference shootout. Kell had a 6-yard touchdown run, PCHS responded with a 56-yard

touchdown toss to Jason Ledford (6 catches 93 yards 1 touchdown). Ledford exploded

after catching the ball, and outran the Longhorns backend 30 yards to the end zone.

Special teams became an asset, when a Kell punt was blocked by Defensive End Brenton

Ballard, and returned for a score by Freshman Strong Safety Smael Mondon. That cut the

Longhorns lead to just five points, 46-41. Kell widened the lead back out with a 79-yard

touchdown toss, 52-41. Freshman Matthew Frey made a 17-yard field goal, that brought

the Patriots back within one score of tying the game. However, Kell managed to score

again on a 26-yard run that put the game out of reach, 58-44 with little time left in the

fourth quarter. The Patriots defense forced Kell into a safety, after they started their

possession at the two-yard line. Defensive End Brenton Ballard collided with Kell in the

backfield in the end zone. The exciting game finished the Kell Longhorns 58 and the

Paulding County Patriots 46. Paulding County (1-1 in region play) will play defending state

champions, Rome High school at PCHS Friday the 22nd.
